Core Values World Champions!
2022-2023 Assembly Required team members with coaches lined up for photograph, receiving Core Values Award trophy on stage at the FIRST Championship's FIRST LEGO League Award Ceremony in Houston, TX, on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Assembly Required #39102 based in Fort Myers, Florida, is the first FLL team in the State to ever win a top award at the prestigious FIRST Championship World Robotics Festival in Houston, Texas and the only team from the USA to win a major award at this year's FIRST LEGO League World Championship, April 19-22, 2023, after competing with the top 108 teams from 59 countries around the World! We are incredibly proud and humbled, and honored to share what we do with so may other teams, students, coaches, volunteers, and spectators, with over 50,000 attendees at the 4 days of events encompassing all levels of FIRST programs. What an incredible experience and a true honor!
Assembly Required is a FIRST LEGO League robotics team, based out of the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, Florida. As a community team of ten 5th-9th graders from six schools in two counties, we want to inspire and educate people about robotics. Competing at all levels, we had an amazing season in 2021/2022--won our Regional Championship, earned top Innovation Project in the State, and earned the coveted bid to the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas, to compete with the top 108 teams from over 40 countries.
Last year, we welcomed five new members and were just getting started when Hurricane Ian devastated our area and sent the river surging up into the Edison Ford Estates, flooding our ground-level garage practice space. After losing over a month of access, we came together and rallied to win our Championship, AGAIN, as well as setting the scoring record for the State of Florida at that February Tournament! In March, we won Robot Performance and Robot Design Awards at the State Championship, and our Head Coach won the Coach/Mentor Award for the State, as well. In April, we returned to the World Robotics Festival, eager to compete, meet other teams, share, and learn. We did all of that and WON the 2023 World Championship top Core Values Award out of the best 108 teams from 59 countries!
Assembly Required began in 2018, and since then, we have grown and improved a lot, building on our successes and training up our new team members to develop our team's potential. We even started a new team last year, Batteries Included, and they blazed through the season, winning awards at the Qualifier and Regional levels, and won the Rising All Star Award at the State Championship where they joined us as one of the top five highest-scoring teams in Florida!
